Lebih dari 25 juta komputer di seluruh dunia terinfeksi virus dan yang harus bertanggungjawab atas kerusakan ini adalah Antivirus itu sendiri! Dari 25 juta komputer tersebut, “Antivirus” telah menyebarkan virus ke lebih dari 30 juta mesin lainnya.

Antivirus menyebarkan Virus? Masalahnya berawal pada pembuat “Antivirus” itu sendiri, mereka menggunakan teknik social engineering atau rekayasa sosial dengan berbagai cara serta meyakinkan korbannya untuk membayar dan menginstal “Antivirus” tersebut. Pada nyatanya “Antivirus” tersebut merupakan program berbahaya dan memungkinkan komputer dapat disusupi para peretas dunia maya.
Tenapril.com mengutip dari Softpedia (21/12/09) Microsoft telah merilis daftar antivirus palsu sebanyak 114 “antivirus” yang berhasil dideteksi Microsoft Security Essentials yang merupakan Antivirus resmi keluaran Microsoft.
Nama-nama “Antivirus” pada 114 daftar di bawah ini diberikan oleh Microsoft dan tidak menutup kemungkinan “Antivirus” tersebut terdeteksi dengan nama lain pada komputer berbeda.
Yang perlu diwaspadai adalah jika saat browshing di internet tiba-tiba Anda ditawari untuk melakukan instalasi software Antivirus. Perlu wasapada dan dipastikan terlebih dahulu sebelum menerima penawaran instalasi.
